The East End Connector Project has begun and once complete will be a part of Interstate 885. The interstate will begin at the Interstate 85/United States Highway 70 junction and head south through the connector to North Carolina Highway 147 then to the Interstate 40/North Carolina Highway 147 junction. This new highway in combination with the existing North Carolina Highway 540 will make it easier to travel north and south in the middle of the Triangle area though this interstate, unlike NC540, will be free. This is one of the two current large highway projects in the area with dirt being moved and bridges being built and is expected to be completed in early 2020.
