City of Oaks Marathon

This Sunday morning is the City of Oaks Marathon. The course starts and ends at the North Carolina State University Memorial Tower built in honor of alumi who died during WWI. It is also referred to as the Belltower. Runners head towards downtown passing Pullen Park eventually run on Fayetteville Street towards the State Capitol Building. Next is the Glenwood South restaurant district all the way to Fred Fletcher Park then entering the tree lined neighborhoods and Cameron Village shopping center along Clark Street. Back to a different campus for Meredith College and entering the greenway section of the course.   The House Creek Greenway heads north towards Crabtree Valley Mall area before heading west on the Crabtree Creek Greenway to the turnaround then continuing further to the Mine Creek Greenway for the next turnaround. The course retraces the path back to Meredith College and onto Hillborough Street to the finish.

Besides the marathon, this event has a half marathon, 10K and 5K all with USTAF certified courses. There is even a kids 1 mile fun run. For the competitors there are many classes starting with 14 and under, then five year increments up to 69 and 70 and over. The top three male and female overall and class winners for the marathon and half marathon will receive an award and the first place male and female and class winner for the 10K and 5K will receive an award.
